Cell sites seem to be everywhere these days, but many people don’t know what’s on them or what the different pieces do. Without the Cat explains what sort of equipment is located at a typical cell tower site.

DC Power and Rectifiers


Equipment at the cell site generally runs on –48V DC, so the site must have power rectifiers to provide the DC power.


Also the site usually has back-up batteries or fuel cells to provide backup power if the main power is interrupted. Usually backup batteries can power the site for between an hour and eight hours.
