So, what’s the deal with the cat?

Cell sites seem to be everywhere these days, but many people don’t know what’s on them or what the different pieces do. Without the Cat explains what sort of equipment is located at a typical cell tower site.

Monopole Cell Tower

The structure used for relatively short towers (100-200 feet/30-60 meters tall). The equipment can also be mounted on a roof or water tank.

For much taller towers, other structures can be used. For up to 400 feet/120 meters, a self supporting tower is used. For even taller cell tellers, a guyed wire structure is used.

Cell Towers are owned by companies like American Tower, Crown Castle or an operator-owned tower company, such as AT&T Towers or T-Mobile Towers.
